New Sandals (our first non-nails, gardening, cooking, traveling, or origami post)

I never even considered this being a fashion blog, but… well, all the other nail art blogs have a little fashion mixed in, so why can’t we? (just yesterday I was describing everything as “too mainstream”… haha)

So anyways, yesterday I dropped by DSW Shoes (which isn’t even cheap!) and got these:

I wasn’t — and I’m still not — sure if they’re a little too conservative. But whatever. They’re super comfy and match a lot of stuff 🙂 The downside was that they were pretty expensive (around $40… gasp), which was a lot more than I was expecting to pay. But I THINK I’ll wear them a lot, so…

Travels

Hey guys, it’s Buddy! Long time no post, right? Heh heh… I know, I’m a disgrace. We should just call this Rover’s blog. Anyway, I kinda sorta have an excuse for my betrayal. I am in Walla Walla!

Image

My dad’s side of the family lives here in Washington state, and we see them almost every summer. This year we only have 5 days to spend in Walla Walla before we go on some cruise to Canada (which sounds amazing, but I wanted to get to spend more time here.) Anyway, we have about 8 days away from home, which gives me a good excuse to not practice so much of my Fountain of the Acqua Paola.

Yes, I play the piano. Rover and I are currently working on a flute / piano duet. Or, I should say, Rover is working on it. (Sorry! I’ll get to it! Probably.) Well, I’m currently working on this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD0-bCXZVj0

It gets really weird, but I guess I like it. Okay, I’m getting off topic. As I was saying, I love it here in Walla Walla, but we visited at a bad time. I mean, I went to take a walk around a lake yesterday and it was NOT what I’d expected. My aunt told me she went there last spring and it was beautiful, but for me, the whole thing was pretty much like this:

Yes, I took those pictures. Well, I should get back to practicing piano right now but I’ll try to post more later. You’ll hear from me when I’m in Canada, I promise. Maybe.

Sunflowers, At Last

ImageMy sunflowers have flowered! They’re about 4 feet tall (not the 5-6′ height they say on the seed package, the liars) but at least their stalks are thick enough to support the heads this year (last year’s sunflowers were a MESS). Unfortunately, I’m at debate camp for a week, but I got my sister to take a picture for me. My flowers always bloom when I’m gone… maybe they’re trying to tell me something….

Now the problem is the moonflowers and morning glories. Apparently you have to stop watering them for a bit to get them to bloom, but it KEEPS RAINING! They’re quickly turning into bushy sort of things with lots of leaves and they’re trying to climb all over each other (I didn’t space them out well at all) but they still haven’t flowered… we’ll just have to see.

On another note: ahh, debate camp. We’re researching and writing cases on whether “unilateral military force by the United States is justified in preventing nuclear proliferation”. Realization: finding evidence on resolutions like that is very difficult.

P.S. Buddy’s posting soon with pictures of her travels from Washington (state) and Canada!

Tea Party

Today we had a tea party! I made lemonade (from real lemons, I used the recipe here), apple pie, and shortbread and maple cookies (more correctly, sables and maple tuiles), for which the recipes came from the excellent book Baking: From My Home to Yours. I burned the shortbread a little, but the lemonade and maple tuiles came out great! Despite the fact that I dropped three of the ultrathin and crispy maple cookies on the floor while curving them and they got crumbs everywhere. I cheated with the apple pie and used pre-made crusts — that had expired in May — but it still came out great.

Tea Party

It’s been either raining or about to rain for the past week or so here, and there’s been flash flooding in some parts of town. I covered the food with plastic wrap as a precaution, because you never know when the rain will start.  At the time my guests were supposed to arrive, everything was fine! It wasn’t even misting, which it does 90% of the time these days. But they arrived 30 minutes late and it was drizzling. A class above sprinkling, but not quite pouring. We shrugged and ate outside anyways. And the maple tuiles only got a little bit soggy (the shortbread was fine, being shortbread).

Ah, Boredom

There are some days when you’re so bored that not even nail art nor gardening can entertain … Or origami, which I’ve discovered is another one of Rover’s hobbies. Anyway, it’s a typical hot summer day and I don’t really have anything to do. Well, there are things I should do, but you get the idea.

So I was sitting around watching my (many, many) houseplants grow and admiring my new manicure (thanks Rover!), when I remembered how a certain someone had been bugging me to post more on our blog (out of all these posts, only 2 have been from me. Sorry!)

I have no idea what else to write, so I hope the rest of your day is packed with fun and little room for boredom… ugh… and if it isn’t, here are some random pictures that can keep you entertained for the next few seconds!

This has nothing to do with anything. I just thought it was a cool picture.

Origami!

I feel like I have a lot of hobbies… besides the ones I’ve posted about (nail art and gardening) I also really, really love origami. And a lot of other stuff, which will probably appear on this blog soon 🙂 Image

Image

And origami animals, especially in bright simple colors, are my favorite!

The peacock wasn’t so great, I think it was supposed to be made from larger, thinner paper, but… oh well. The elephant came out well — after around 5 tries. Persistence is the key!

A Word From a Friend

One of my friends just sent me this. It was interesting.

“There was a unicorn named Brownie. He swallowed a dragon whole but the dragon came out of that hole and burned Unicornland. So Brownie and the other unicorns went to the magical waterfall and used hydro pump, which didn’t affect the dragon. So they used moon stones and transformed to togepis and metronome helped. something turned into dialga, dragon got defeated when Brownie used Focus Punch, and then called himself the “best Digimon ever” and everyone chucked Mario Toads at him while saying “BAAAAAKAAAAA” because he confused “Digi” with “Poke.” Then, he turned out to be Princess Celestia’s son, but the it was a Changeling, and the a ROB bomb from Super Smash Brothers Brawl blew everything up.”

A Thank-You Card

My aunt bought us really good seats to see Wicked on Broadway (it’s a great musical, you should see it!) so I decided to send her a thank-you card.

Target had dozens of thank-you cards, but they were all too weird, or too sophisticated, or too young, or too whatever. Finally, I stumbled upon the PERFECT card:

Monks

Yes. I seriously did buy this card. I think she’ll appreciate it.

(P.S. I think I’ll become a card designer! I mean, if a card like THIS can sell… well…)

Hello, World!

This is our first post! (No, the other ones didn’t get mysteriously deleted). Ummm. There’s not much to say.

I think I’ll post a photo of how the weather was yesterday. It’s kind of gray… it’s funny, it was supposed to rain for the last three days here, but it never did. Oh, meteorologists… Image
