The Ugliest One

Buddy (re)did my nails today, with the ugliest colors I have seen yet. Isn’t it endearingly hideous? Maybe I’ll wear it for Halloween, when I dress up as a zombie.

The yellow-green, textured one is Deborah Lippmann “I Wanna Be Sedated” and the glitter one is Deborah Lippmann “Shake Your Money Maker”.
Don’t worry, I won’t keep it on for long. Soon I’m redoing music nails, for band camp!

Pink, with an Accent

I did Buddy’s nails today, and they’re pretty darn good (if I may say so myself). Nothing fancy, just a simple pink with an accent nail, but classy and better looking than a LOT of the manis I’ve done, sadly.

More Nails

So I redid my nails again yesterday, despite being inconvenienced by a stomach bug. I used strips of tape to do the two stripes. It came out ok, not great; the strips of tape got kind of messed up because I accidentally rubbed them… Whoops.

New Nails, Blue Nails

One of my relatives is a buyer for Barneys New York and gets these free nail polishes from companies. She never paints her nails, so once I mentioned I was into nail art she offered to send me her many unused bottles of polish! Thanks so much! 🙂

It’s Jin Soon “Blue Iris”. In the picture it looks kind of purple, but it’s firmly in the realm of indigo. Jin Soon isn’t really a common brand and I hadn’t heard about it before.  It’s kind of rubbery and runny, which makes it really difficult to apply, but I’ve had it on for three days and it still looks good as new (so maybe it’s worth the $18/bottle!).

(These nails aren’t bright orange, yellow, or sparkly green, Buddy! :))

Our Growing Collection

Our nail polish collection (this is our combined collection) is small. But it’s growing!

Pretty, or Pretty Ugly?

When it comes to nail polish, I’m usually pretty boring. I use pinks, sometimes red… while Rover is going around with bright yellow, orange, or sparkly green nails. So today I decided to try something a little different.

I’ve seen colors like these look great on a lot of people! But with me, it didn’t really work out. I loved the color in the bottle, but once it was on my nails, I looked like a corpse. You could call it pretty in a way, but to me it just looks pretty ugly.

Here it is: On a Trip from Wet n Wild.

This picture doesn’t let you appreciate just how bad this color looked on me. It’s more of a dull, lighter purple in person. I didn’t want to remove it, though, after all that hard work. Now I’m rethinking that decision.

I still love colors like these, and I’ll probably try more of them in the future. But for now, I’m sticking to the pinks.

Newspaper Nails: A Success Story

I just tried the newspaper nails. I used almond extract (32% alcohol) and I actually used sheet music instead of newspaper for these. It was super easy and worked great! I wasn’t sure whether sheet music would work or not, because nobody seemed to know… but it worked great!

ImageYeah, I didn’t really clean up my hands afterwards — we didn’t have any Q-tips in the house — so there’s polish left around the nails (I’m left-handed, so my left hand usually is pretty messed up). And yeah, that’s the completely wrong way to hold a flute, but otherwise all the nails wouldn’t show 🙂

I’m not doing a whole tutorial on it — just google it — but a quick tip: dip both the nail AND the sheet music/newspaper in the vodka/rubbing alcohol/almond extract. I did that for my left hand and it looks a LOT better.

I painted my nails yesterday. They don’t usually look that smooth, trust me.Image(It’s Sephora by OPI, Read my Palm)

Newspaper Nails

So… we’ve been casting around for new nail ideas and we stumbled upon NEWSPAPER NAILS! (many thanks to Pinterest!!!) Mmm!!!

Image

These nails are basically using rubbing alcohol to transfer ink from the newsprint onto your nail. Although we haven’t tried it yet, it seems to work great. (We will be trying it soon!)

Here’s a great tutorial (I don’t like video nail tutorials, so I’m posting a link to an eHow one): http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Newspaper-Nails
